Pattaya city consists of two adjoining administrative districts: Huay Yai and Nong Pla Lai. It is located on the territory of Chonburi province where Bangkok, the capital of Kingdom of Siam, is situated. Being located on the shore of Siam Gulf, Pattaya city has an advantageous maritime location. It is not only the biggest tourist center of the country, it is also a huge trading port.
Coves and islets are very convenient for fishermen in this area. Traditionally the city is divided into several big districts: Naklua, Central Pattaya, South Pattaya, Jomtien, Na Jomtien as well as Bang Sare and Bang Amphur beaches adjoining to the city. Naklua or the North of Pattaya is the oldest district founded on the place of an old fishing village. On its outskirts entertainment establishments for sailors of the American navy were opened during Vietnam War and the Central part of the city was built in this way. The youngest districts (Jomtien, Na Jomtien) have the longest beaches and the construction of multistory residential buildings is underway. Also there are many hotels in this place. South Pattaya is low-rise; this is the district of comfortable villas and houses organized in villages.
Beaches of Pattaya city are the cleanest in Bang Sare and Bang Amphur districts. The rest in Pattaya is very diverse and it will suit any taste. The most touristic part of the city is the Center having a plenty of bars, entertaining institutions and shows. The biggest supermarkets are also located in the center.
